A FLAMES calculator turns the familiar paper-and-pencil game into a clear browser experience. You enter two names, matching letters are crossed out one pair at a time, and the total number of letters left is used to count through F, L, A, M, E, and S. The final letter becomes the game result.
LoveMatch Play follows the traditional counting pattern consistently, so the same pair of names always produces the same answer. The process is visible in the result card instead of being hidden behind a random outcome.
Transparent counting
The algorithm uses the same rules every time and never relies on randomness, the current time, or a server. Here is the full process in plain language.
Capitalization and spacing are normalized. Hyphens and apostrophes remain valid for display but are removed from the letter sequence.
Each common character cancels one matching character in the other name. Repeated letters are never collapsed into a simple set.
The remaining letters from both names are added together. If all letters cancel, a stable full-cycle count of six is used.
The count moves around the available FLAMES letters. After one is removed, counting continues from the next available letter.
Why the details matter
Repeated letters matter because FLAMES removes characters one pair at a time. For example, if the first name has three A letters and the second has one, one A from each name is removed and two A letters stay in the final count. A simple unique-letter comparison would produce the wrong traditional result.
Name order does not change the final count. The calculator also uses Unicode-aware letter handling, so accented and non-English names can participate without being reduced to English-only characters. Different spellings can still produce different outcomes because this is a letter game.
Names and results may remain temporarily in memory while this tab stays open, including when you move between tools. They are cleared by a refresh or when the tab closes and are not written into the page address, browser storage, cookies, or an external calculation service. A downloaded card is created locally only after you choose Download Result.
Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, and Siblings are playful labels from the classic game. They do not identify anyone’s feelings, predict marriage, imply real family ties, or define a relationship.
Good to know
FLAMES stands for Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, and Siblings. These are traditional game labels, not descriptions or predictions of a real relationship.
The calculator normalizes both names, keeps their letters, and removes common characters one pair at a time. It adds the letters left in both names, then uses that number to repeatedly count around and remove letters from F-L-A-M-E-S until one remains.
No. Swapping the two people produces the same remaining-letter count, FLAMES elimination sequence, and result. Capitalization and extra spaces also do not change the outcome.
Yes. Repeated letters are matched one at a time. If one name contains three copies of a letter and the other contains one, only one pair is removed and the two extra copies remain in the count.
No. FLAMES is a nostalgic word game. It cannot measure feelings, compatibility, commitment, or future events, and it should never be used as relationship advice.
No. Names and results are not saved to browser storage or uploaded. They may remain temporarily in memory while this tab stays open so you can move between tools without losing the FLAMES result. Refreshing or closing the tab clears them, and names are never placed in the URL.
Yes. The calculator supports Unicode letters, including many accented and non-English names. Spaces, hyphens, and apostrophes are accepted for display and removed before the FLAMES letter count.
